Death Valley National Park

California     (Feb 2006)

It was quite a detour on my way to Tahoe to go east off of 395 and drive through Death Valley National Park from San Diego.  Knowing that the valley is known for 120 degree summer temperatures I knew it would be a good time of year to take a drive on through.  After driving all day I arrived just before sunset, camped that night, and was up early the next morning for a hike through the dunes.  The dunes that morning was the highlight of the park for me and contained endless photo opportunities.

I continued my drive and hit back up with 395 in Lone Pine.  It was quite an interesting drive to say the least going from the lowest elevation in America and then an hour later looking up at looking at Mt. Whitney the highest.
