About
After going to Europe for 3 months I knew that it would not be enough to come home, chalk that one off the ole life list and settle right back into the groove of working life. I was blessed with the courage and opportunity to plan such an adventure and I wanted to share and record what I could of the time spent there. Pictures, words, and a few clips go so well together to tell a story. I have a perfectly clear memory of being on a train in Switzerland, my head was out the window, the sun hanging low in the sky, Swiss villages surrounded by rolling green hills, the pure wind on my face as the train rounded the next turn. And I thought- " This is it, this is what life is all about, Dan don't forget this feeling." This page has an emphasis on trekking. Most of these treks immerse you in the wilderness usually spending multiple nights hiking among the most spectacular backcountry landscapes. You are free when traveling like this. Leave the tin can confinement of the car behind. Enjoy a pace that you can reflect and feel the surroundings. You are 100% self-suffient carrying all their gear to survive, thus being free to travel and camp where ever you choose. I am fortunate to live in California and am surrounded by some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes. You must have a passion for this type of travel because it does require an awful amount of planning, preparation, and a few dangers. Long days on the trail push will push your body both mentally and physically. I guess that I cant really explain the rewards and I am certain that my pictures will not either. How could a picture convey all the feelings and scenes a place immerses you with? What I do know is that these travels and backpacking journeys are some of the most memorable days of my life. Photography has become a priority during our travels. What is so appealing to me about photography? It is the perfect compliment, traveling is all about new experiences and the camera is the tool to capture these moments. Walking is the perfect tempo. It makes me look at the world with a detailed look and it allows me to appreciate my surroundings. Everything from the vast horizons to the wildflower along the trail. Neither is more worthy or more of a miracle than another. I might be thinking, "What part of this scene do I want to capture?" The world is a fascinating place, some locations truly feel like they cannot be real. Pictures seldom compare, but when everything comes together and you do get that shot, it can give a glimpse of that moment and wonder that we can share with others. Photographs are also inspiring. I saw the most beautiful picture of a glacier carved canyon in a tour book while traveling Europe. I simply decided that I would go there... I had to see this place. All I knew the towns name was Gavarnie and it was in France. On the way to Paris we jumped on a different train, and soon a bus, and finally a hitchhike. It was a wonderful side trip and took us to a memorable little town high up in the French Pyrenees Mountains. All due to one picture that caught my eye. And it was well worth it. There are countless other spots nearby here in the western US and afar that I must see. This website is scrapbook to share with anyone interested in the most magnificent wilderness areas and wonders of the world. It offers a glimpse of my time spent as I trek and seek out more of these places. We are all the authors of our life story, this is mine. Enjoy. Dan
