Overview: We woke up pre-dawn to get an early jump on a long day ahead. Making it to the top of St Helens required 5500 ft elevation gain and 12 miles of work. The winds were cranking the night before and we knew it was going to be iffy up on the high slopes.
Split board functioning very well
Lower slopes of the mountain
Looking up at the face a few miles in
Mt Adams seen to the East
A steady slope upwards
Lots of company on this very unusal warm April day
Nearing the top
looking back down the mountain
From the top the first 500 ft was quite a bit icy, but it was still possible to skin all the way to the rim
Taken from the top, it was extremely windy, and from the rim it was a shear drop. Looking over the otherside and Mt Raineer in the distrance looked otherworldly.. I got some video panos from the top but forgot to get a picture looking over the rim. I wanted to get strapped in and begin down ASAP. We enjoyed the decent and got in some wonderful spring corn turns in the middle of the winter.
