Chamonix, France

Charmonix was one of my favorite places in Europe.  It is a charming town nestled deep in a valley surrounded by the Alps highest peaks (Mt. Blanc).  For this day hike we got up very early and caught the tram to the top of a pinnicle.  We went from the middle of summer to a winter wonderland surrounded by glaciers.  When we took the tram down we got off at the halfway point to start our hike along the valley to the Mir De Glace glacier.  It was a sight to behold.

This taken from the halfway point looking up at the top of the tram station seemingly balencing on the peak.

Mountaineers probably returning from the top of Europe - Mt. Blanc looming behind them.

You can continue on the tram across the Alps and arrive on the other side in Italy.  We did not drop any more money to go farther.

Along the trail on the way to the Mir De Glaze.  We heard a few rockfalls echoing through the valley.  That small peak above my head is where the tram goes.  The miway station can also be seen behind me and was the starting point.

We rounded a bend and there it was.  The massive Mir De Glaze flowing through the valley.  Pictures cant do it justice!  A train then took us from the base of the glacier back down to Charmonix.
